Role Overview: The Sheetmetal Operator – CNC Punch is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC punch equipment used in the production of sheet metal components for HVAC and refrigeration equipment. This role requires the ability to interpret engineering drawings, perform accurate measurements, monitor product quality, and safely operate machinery while meeting production schedules and quality standards.

1. Safety & Housekeeping

• Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
• Operate machinery safely and responsibly in accordance with company standards
• Clean and maintain machines, tools, and work areas
• Care for tools and equipment; notify maintenance of equipment issues or malfunctions

2. Machine Operation & Setup

• Set up CNC punch machines and punches for production operations
• Run required parts according to production schedules and job requirements
• Understand CNC input commands and ensure proper tool selection and machine operation
• Distinguish between different gauges and types of materials
• Accurately measure and cut stock material on machines

3. Technical Reading & Measurement

• Read and interpret engineering drawings, instructions, and manufacturing requirements
• Use tape measures and calipers to verify punch placement, dimensions, and tolerances
• Measure materials accurately to the nearest thousandth using precision measuring tools

4. Quality & Productivity

• Monitor quality by taking measurements, detecting malfunctions, troubleshooting processes, and adjusting or reprogramming controls as needed
• Follow quality assurance procedures and processes to ensure accurate production
• Inspect completed work and ensure quality standards are met
• Prioritize work schedules and complete assignments within expected timeframes
• Follow manufacturing instructions and work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity

5. Teamwork & Collaboration

• Contribute to team efforts by working cooperatively with coworkers and supporting related functions as needed
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding production or quality concerns

6. Administrative & Compliance

• Accurately charge time in the time and attendance system to ensure proper labor distribution and payroll accuracy
• Comply with all government regulations, laws, company policies, and procedures
• Maintain regular attendance and work overtime as required to meet production demands

7. Additional Duties

• Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor as needed

Desired Qualifications

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred to support continued growth and advancement within the company
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions from supervisors and leadership

Skills & Abilities

• Effective communication and strong listening skills
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and written instructions
• Basic mathematical skills and mechanical aptitude
• Ability to operate and monitor equipment and production systems effectively
• Ability to evaluate performance and identify opportunities for improvement or corrective action
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and maintain positive working relationships

Certificates, Licenses, or Training

• On-the-job training provided
• Forklift certification preferred

Interaction with Others: Reports to the Director of Manufacturing Operations. Must be able to accurately receive, understand, and follow instructions from supervisors and leads. This role requires effective collaboration with coworkers and a cooperative, team-oriented approach. The employee must maintain positive working relationships, communicate effectively, and be willing to ask questions and assist others as needed to support departmental and organizational success.
