Role Overview: The Coil Department Lead supports the department supervisor by overseeing daily production activities, coordinating with other departments, and ensuring on-time completion of all work according to company priorities. This role leads by example through adherence to safety, quality, and performance standards and provides training, coaching, and guidance to department employees.

  • Enforce RAE Corporation safety programs and policies; lead by example in maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Coach and correct unsafe behaviors, report hazards, and support injury prevention efforts.
  • Communicate company policies and expectations clearly to employees and provide feedback as needed.
  • Report injuries promptly to the EHS Manager and assist in coordinating transitional duty or corrective actions.
  • Support the supervisor in managing employee performance through coaching, goal communication, and performance reviews.
  • Assist in coordinating and conducting training programs for new hires, ensuring they receive the necessary resources and feedback for success.
  • Attend required leadership, technical, and safety training.
  • Read and interpret production schedules; communicate relevant details to team members.
  • Maintain awareness of department progress relative to the production schedule and company priorities.
  • Cooperate with other departments to support cross-functional goals.
  • Train leads on manufacturing methods, procedures, and quality expectations.
  • Ensure manufacturing instructions are followed accurately.
  • Monitor hours spent on production, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to deadlines.
  • Track quality metrics and report issues according to quality assurance procedures.
  • Record production data, including completed work, scrap, and variances.
  • Serve as the “go-to” contact for Coil Department employees, providing support, guidance, and problem resolution.
  • Mentor and coach coworkers to optimize performance, teamwork, and safe work practices.
  • Confirm department leads are keeping up with department spreadsheets
  • Assist in resolving conflicts and maintaining a positive team environment.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and ensure all materials and equipment are properly handled.
  • Monitor housekeeping standards and direct employees to maintain clean, organized work areas.
  • Do regular walks throughout departments.
  • Do weekly one-on-ones
  • Hold weekly Team Flow meetings.
  • Assist with troubleshooting operational issues and recommend process improvements.
  • Comply with all government regulations, company policies, and procedures.
  • Attend work as scheduled, arrive on time, and work overtime as required to meet production demands.
  • Care for tools and equipment and report maintenance needs promptly.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Desired Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 2–3 years of relevant manufacturing or assembly experience; prior leadership experience preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to train and mentor others effectively.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and production flow.
  • Basic math and measurement skills (including reading a tape measure down to 1/16").
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and ability to enforce safe work practices.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering documents and bills of material.

Certificates, Licenses, or Training:

  • Supervisor or leadership training preferred.
  • OSHA 10-Hour Certification required or ability to obtain within 90 days.

Interaction with Others: Reports directly to the Coil Shop Supervisor and collaborates with Engineering, Quality Assurance, and other Production Leads. Must be able to communicate instructions clearly and foster a cooperative, team-oriented environment. Oversees Final Assembly Pipers and provides leadership and direction to assigned personnel.

Working Environment: Work is performed in an industrial manufacturing environment for a producer of refrigeration and HVAC equipment. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, and varying temperatures. The noise level can be high in certain areas. The role requires adaptability to seasonal workload changes and the ability to handle pressure related to deadlines and quality standards.
