summary of position

The maintenance personnel is responsible for the preventative maintenance and repair of the buildings, grounds, outside facilities, automobiles, forklifts, and all production equipment and machines.

Essential functions

  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Read and understand equipment service manuals, drawings, and instructions.
  • Repair and maintain the physical structure of the establishment.
  • Dismantle defective machines and equipment and install new or repaired parts.
  • Operate cutting torch and welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
  • Listen for unusual sounds from machining or equipment to detect malfunction and diagnose problems or repair machinery.
  • Visually inspect and test machinery and equipment.
  • Repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment.
  • Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments.
  • Repair or replace defective parts. Lubricate and clean parts.
  • Repair electrical equipment.
  • Know troubleshooting (problem-solving) procedures.
  • Test and service each piece of equipment and machinery plant-wide.
  • Follow lockout/tag-out procedures when servicing electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Clock in and clock out using computer timekeeping software.
  • Contribute to team effort by working with others and accomplishing related functions as needed.
  • Complete any task as assigned by the supervisor as needed.
  • Comply with government regulations, laws, company policies, and company procedures.
  • Work overtime as necessary.
  • Attend work as required.
  • Arrive for work on time.
  • On-call as needed.
  • Work by oneself without constant supervision, be self-motivated, and complete job assignments on time.
  • Care for tools and equipment. Advise maintenance of equipment that is not working correctly.
  • Clean work area as required.

Desired qualifications

Education & Experience: A high school level of education is required for this position to continue upward advancement in the Company. Technical coursework preferred. The employee must be able to understand directions from superiors. Previous equipment experience required, including knowledge of PLC controls.

Skills: Effective communications skills, good listening skills, ability to read and comprehend drawings and written instructions, basic mathematical skills, ability to control operations of equipment or system, monitoring/assessing performance of yourself, other individuals or organization to make improvements or take corrective action, good people skills to work in teams with others in the organization.

Certificates, Licenses, or training: on-site training, basic electrical training, forklift license

level/grade

1 – Beginning level maintenance technician meets minimal quality standards, needs more time to complete work than estimated for the job

2 – Proficient level maintenance technician meets quality standards, able to complete work within estimated hours for the job

3 – Proficient level maintenance technician meets quality standards, able to complete work in less time than estimated for the job

Interaction with others

Reports to Vice President of Operations. Must be able to receive, understand and follow instructions from supervisor accurately. The employee must be able to work with all employees of the RAE team and show a spirit of cooperation with others in the organization. To accomplish this teamwork, the employee must get along well with coworkers and be willing to ask and answer questions as needed.

working environment

Work is performed in an industrial production area for a manufacturer of refrigeration and HVAC equipment. The employee is constantly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. They are exposed to extreme temperatures in both winter and summer—possible stress caused by the pressure of meeting deadlines and product quality standards. The noise level in the work environment is high in some areas. Seasonal variations in hours worked based on production demands.

Other Physical Requirements: Sustained use of eyesight for functions such as visual inspection, reading, measuring, and operating hand tools, along with the ability to see objects and detect motion at wide angles (peripheral vision) to maintain employee safety, ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (i.e., safety glasses, hearing protection), auditory capabilities.
