Role Overview: Header Brazers are responsible for brazing the correct components onto headers according to engineering drawings and job specifications. This role ensures that header connections, Schrader valves, flares, and related fittings are installed accurately and securely. Header Brazers also build distributor assemblies to specification, verifying that correct parts are used for each job to support quality heat exchange coil assembly.

1. Safety & Housekeeping
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following all procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Follow brazing safety standards, including proper handling of torches, gases, and hot materials.
- Care for tools and equipment and notify maintenance of any equipment or safety issues.
- Maintain cleanliness of work area and comply with housekeeping standards.
2. Brazing & Assembly
- Braze required components onto headers, including connections, Schrader valves, flares, and related fittings.
- Build distributor assemblies according to engineering drawings and job specifications.
- Verifycorrect parts are selected and used for each job.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, bills of material, and written work instructions.
- Measure components accurately using a tape measure down to 1/16 of an inch.
- Prepare parts and assemblies for brazing, ensuring proper fit and alignment.
3. Quality & Productivity
- Inspect completed work to ensure quality, proper brazing, and compliance with specifications.
- Identify and correct defects or inconsistencies prior to passing work forward.
- Follow manufacturing instructions and complete assignments accurately and on time.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity standards.
4. Teamwork & Collaboration
- Contribute to team efforts by working cooperatively with coworkers, leads, and supervisors.
- Communicate effectively regarding part requirements, quality concerns, or job issues.
- Support related functions as needed to meet production schedules and department goals.
5. Administrative & Compliance
- Accurately charge time in the time and attendance system to ensure proper labor tracking and payroll accuracy.
- Comply with all government regulations, laws, company policies, and procedures.
- Attend work as scheduled, arrive on time, and work overtime as required to meet production demands.
6. Other Duties
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor as needed.
Desired Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred to support continued advancement.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions from supervisors.
Skills & Abilities
- Experience or aptitude in brazing operations.
- Ability to read and comprehend technical drawings and work instructions.
- Basic mathematical skills, including accurate measurement to 1/16 of an inch.
- Strong attention to detail and quality.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Certificates, Licenses, or Training
- On-the-job training provided.
Level / Grade Structure
- Level 1 – Beginning: Meets minimum quality standards; requires additional time or assistance to complete brazing tasks.
- Level 2 – Proficient: Consistently meets quality standards and completes work within estimated time.
- Level 3 – Advanced: Exceeds quality standards, completes work efficiently, and demonstrates advanced brazing skills and distributor assembly expertise.
Interaction with Others: Reports to the Coil Shop Supervisor. Must be able to accurately receive, understand, and follow instructions from the supervisor or lead. This role requires regular interaction with coworkers and a cooperative, team-oriented approach. Willingness to ask questions and provide assistance to others is essential.
Working Environment: Work is performed in an industrial manufacturing environment for refrigeration and HVAC equipment. The employee is regularly exposed to hot materials, open flames, moving mechanical parts, and industrial equipment. Noise levels may be high in some areas, and temperatures may vary seasonally. The position may involve pressure related to production schedules, quality requirements, and changing workloads.
