Position Summary:
The E&I Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of all electrical and instrumentation systems within the plant. This role ensures safe, efficient, and compliant operation of electrical and control systems to support continuous production. The supervisor leads a team of electrical and instrumentation technicians, coordinating preventive, and corrective maintenance activities while ensuring adherence to industry standards and company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and direct daily activities of E&I technicians to ensure maintenance tasks are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
- Identify training needs and providing guidance and support for team member’s professional development.
- Provide timely performance feedback to team and participating in the company’s performance management process, meeting any deadlines established.
- Understand the technical functionality on electrical equipment and be able to train operators and maintenance technicians on the operations and troubleshooting of equipment.
- Responsible for performance management related to the E&I team
- Improve technical capability of the electrical team by developing and executing professional development plans for direct reports.
- Ensure all work complies with safety regulations (OSHA, NEC, NFPA 70E) and environmental requirements.
- Manage and update maintenance records, electrical drawings, loop diagrams, and instrument calibration documentation.
- Provide technical guidance to technicians and interface with engineering, operations, and HSE teams.
- Troubleshoot electrical and instrument systems throughout the plant.
- Help maintain electrical and instrument equipment through PM procedures.
- Assist in instituting new control systems.
- Research and develop better controls, instrument, and electrical processes.
- Trouble shoot, assess, inspect, adjust, and make repairs, as needed to the Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) as well as all facility flow, pressure, temperature, and level instrumentation. This includes but not limited to transmitter flow devices, level controls and temperature measurement equipment.
- Track and monitor reoccurring problems and provide solutions to correct these problems.
- Identify weakness in the equipment related to electrical systems and develop solutions.
- Assist in developing job plans for I&E work orders.
- Support purchasing of all warehouse stock items related to I&E needs and non-stock parts required for repairs.
- Assist in developing weekly I&E work schedules, working with Operations to ensure work schedule by priority.
- Assist in plant turnaround scope of work.
Qualifications
Key Requirements/Preferred Qualifications
- 5-8+ years in plant maintenance experience, including 5+ years of prior chemical plant experience (preferred).
- 3 years’ leadership experience in managing a team.
- Associates degree or technical education (preferred).
- Solid knowledge of calibration procedures, loop checks, and control valve diagnostics.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, documents, drawings, specification sheets, etc.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
- General knowledge of regulatory requirements, including OSHA, EPA, NFPA and other standards.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work with people at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to support the facility needs during weekends, holidays and outside of normal office hours.
- Experience supporting maintenance/repairs with outside resources and contractors.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Good computer, organization, planning and time management skills.
- Experience with various chemical unit operations.
- Knowledge and practice of leadership and management abilities.
- Ability to create and lead teams to drive change.
- Ability to utilize and drive teamwork throughout the organization.
- Knowledge in maintenance planning & computerized maintenance management software.
- Knowledge of various Instrument & Electrical equipment and operations.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Willingness to work around dust, chemicals, high pressure, extreme temperature, loud noises, and running equipment.
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots and hearing protection).
- Must be able to lift as much as 25 lbs.
