Duties and Responsibilities

Financial returns:

  • Participate in the preparation of the annual departmental operating budget and financial plans. Monitor budget and control expenses with a focus on energy management, preventative maintenance, and capital planning.

  • Lead hotel renovations and other projects, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely completion of projects within budget.

People:

  • Responsible for and lead the engineering team on day-to-day staffing requirements, plan and assign work, and establish performance and development goals for team members. Provide mentoring, coaching and regular feedback to help manage conflict and improve team member performance.

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee the execution of preventive maintenance and repair schedules for all machinery, equipment, and facilities, ensuring work is carried out properly by team members, external service providers, and contractors.

  • Ensure, educate and train all team members in compliance with IHG engineering standards and local laws and safety regulations. Ensure staff is properly trained and has the tools and equipment to carry out job duties.

  • Ensure a safe and secure environment for guests, team members in compliance with regulatory policies and procedures. Maintain relations with outside contacts including guests, regulatory agencies, others as needed.

Guest experience:

  • Understand and respond to customers needs and ensure a high level of guest satisfaction.

  • Ensure completion of preventive maintenance programme and repair schedules of all the facilities, rooms, equipment and machineries so that they are in service for our guests.

  • Responsible for planning and driving Hotel’s engineering projects

Responsible business:

  • Oversee Fire Safety Manager duties, which include developing and oversee fire safety policies and procedures, conduct regular fire risk assessments and drills, ensure fire protection systems are properly maintained and compliant with regulations, liaise with fire authorities for inspections and certifications, investigate fire incidents and recommend corrective actions, and train staff and contractors on fire safety and evacuation procedures.

  • Maintain and order parts and supplies in a timely and efficient manner while minimising waste and maintaining “green” initiatives.

  • May be responsible for hotel security and the team to ensure that they work effectively to minimise risk of theft, crime and other hazards.

  • Maintain and organise building drawings, specifications and operational manuals.

  • Be aware of duty of care and adhere to occupational, health and safety legislation, policies and procedures

  • Be familiar with property safety, first aid and fire and emergency procedures and enforce these in your areas and ensure that we are compliant.

  • Initiate action to correct a hazardous situation and notify supervisors of potential dangers

  • Ensure security incidents and accidents are logged, investigated and rectified to prevent future catastrophes

  • Attends operations meeting daily.

  • Answer emergency calls at all times including outside of working hours.

  • Perform other duties as assigned. May also serve as manager on duty.

Requirements:

  • At least 5-8 years of management experience in Engineering in similar capacity in the hospitality industry and have strong working knowledge of building and facilities management. This include one or more food or beverage outlets and/or meeting spaces.
